The Society of Biblical Literature has launched a new website with basic articles on the people, places, and passages of the Bible, called Bible Odyssey. I think it would be fair to say that this site represents biblical scholars doing their best to be objective. It has a wide range of contributors, with scholars old and young.
This is what mainstream scholarship looks like. In our day, when money can buy truth and mass media makes it possible for the skewed to have a disproportionate voice, my hunch is that this site provides a kind of baseline.
