By now everyone has seen this clip of a man throwing his shoes at President Bush during his last visit to the country. The man calls Bush a dog and says several other things.
I don't know about the comedy scene last night, but a couple good puns on the Today show, as well as by Bush himself.
Bush said he didn't know what the man was saying, but he got a good look into his sole. Bush also was a good dodge.
This morning Meredith Vierra asked if this event "flies in the face" of the idea that Iraq is now at peace.
Not really a laughing matter--a big insult--but Bush's reaction was the best one, to have fun with it. What better way to trivialize a serious insult than by laughing at the man.

It is so sad when we don't take another's understanding into the solution. Some things as you say are a matter of priority, and Wim saw that up close working in the State Department. There are so many "frames" in which to view a situation.
At the university, this is understood as looking throught one's discipline to understand a particular subject...that is why faith integration is so important.
I can't imagine what it must be like standing at a podium and being a cool as President Bush was. I would think the first reaction when the man stood and started to throw something would be to duck under the podium. But Bush dodged both shoes and took it all in stride. Ba doom, boom!
Stupid man (I mean Bush). An illegal war and mass destruction and now he has the cheek to make a final visit... The insult wasn't isolated - it reflects wider resentment of Bush and America.
