I'm taking a break today, a "sabbath" from posting... except for this.
Our 2 month old Great Dane was sitting alone on our back deck last night. I was getting ready to mow the back yard and my cheap green push mower was also sitting on the deck.
As I was doing whatever in the house, I realized that our three foot long puppy (!) was barking at something. It turned out to be the mower. I figure he remembered the "animal" from the last time I mowed. He followed close and curious for a while, until I ran over something or other and sent it shooting loudly against the deck. Then Bruce wanted to go inside.
Having a penchant for philosophizing, I realized that Bruce would not distinguish in his mind between animal and machine. He had seen this thing move. He had seen this thing make noise. He was treating it like he would treat any other animal. When androids get really sophisticated, we'll begin to ask these sorts of questions too.

Very cute great dane puppies. But just to be contrary I don't think he is fooled by the mower. It doesn't have a very animalish smell and no eyes and legs. My cat has treated pieces of string, stuffed toys, pencils, toilet rolls - anything that she or I can move - like mice, since she has been a kitten. I doubt she ever thought they were real - they don't smell. I think your puppy has more clues than you give him credit for! :-)
Experience and Reason...your great Dane puppy responds to his experience, while Steph's kitten responds to what nature "demands"..responds as a kitten...
Aren't humans the same...we experience things and remember, not gonna go there again...while those who do not change act as they always have...wisdom is learning and not submitting to those who do not desire to change themselves...
The Christian? Well, isn't different from any other human, as human nature has "human design"...but what one does with that human nature when it comes to other things and other people is important in assessing how human one really id...so it is not about Christian faith or any other color of faith, but what kind of person you are...athiest, Christian, Buddhist, Jew, or not...(neither Jew or Greek).
By the way, have you followed what is happening to a lady in Israel whose Jewishness (converted for 15 years) didn't measure up to the standards of the Orthodox...she and hubby were divorcing...and the Jewish Orthodox decided she hadn't complied with the faith as they deemed fit...
Wow. Some times a dog story is just a dog story, Angie. I wonder how many more comments you'll post on this one.
Sheesh...
