An excerpt from my autobiography :-)
It was not until I was in my forties that my mind settled down enough to read, and even then it was not without effort. I had always wanted to read and had often tried. My greatest material indulgence in life was the collection of books, both the classics of the Western tradition and of my trade. But I had scarcely found the presence of mind to finish any of them, though I had started them all.

There is no way that you "just started" to read in your forties! I've not read your blog for all that long and you've read more than most people do in a lifetime! You're not that old AND you got your Ph.D. published just in the last few years, and wasn't it right on the heels of you turning forty or right thereafter? (I understand that men are not as "vain" as women in divulging their age:))...
