Mark's Jesus is written to suffering Christians in Rome, we think during Nero's horrific persecution. Mark wants to highlight that while Jesus' power to exorcise demons and heal diseases is worth mentioning, he proved his Messianic identity through his suffering. The centurion puts a capstone on this by looking up at Jesus on the cross and saying "surely this was the son of God."Lenny Luchettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08896001990363426239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8355052.post-22147250402595128212012-09-28T16:04:57.712-04:002012-09-28T16:04:57.712-04:00I did listen to one of them. Having said that, I agree with the basic thrust--Jesus didn't promote himself as Messiah but everyone around him were a buzz at the possibility.Ken Schenckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09745548537303356655noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8355052.post-13843222009140699852012-09-27T08:27:29.019-04:002012-09-27T08:27:29.019-04:00Dale Martin points out that even though Jesus swea...Dale Martin points out that even though Jesus swears everyone to secrecy they go blabbing anyway. So Mark could not have been saying that no one thought Jesus was the messiah. Martin's theory is that Mark was saying that everyone figured it out except those in power.Scott Fnoreply@blogger.com
