If we loose these, we loose everything for the right of an oligarchy or dictator.Angie Van De Merwehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12617299120618867829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8355052.post-73334359702982136332013-01-27T12:25:43.990-05:002013-01-27T12:25:43.990-05:00It is true that "theology frames" one...It is true that "theology frames" one's understanding of scripture....

Those Wesleyans that hold to a "Moral Government" theory of the Old Testament need to ask themselves if "moral" means that a "moral majority" impinges upon the liberties of a minority...."Moral" then, could just mean a social norm or social conditioning that might or might not be so "moral", such as any authoritarian government, or traditional social issue, such as slavery, woman's rights, etc.

Those that hold to a "Providential" view of government tend toward passivity and inaction, in submitting to the status quo as "God's will". God intervenes, and it "over government" and since the world is going to end anyway, as Jesus has told us why worry about it?

Those that hold to a sectarian view of "faith", tend toward spiritualism and supernaturalism in a way that viewing the institution and structures do not.

Today the Church is faced with legalizing gay rights and abortion continues to be THE issue that divides the social conservative or liberal. Marriage is seen by conservatives as a particular order/structure that cannot be abridged without doing damage to society.

Social conservatives have always been "behind the times" in affirming the re-structuring of society as they are "traditionalists".

The question that all of us should be asking, whether believer or unbeliever, is what is best for society in these issues and why? What makes for human flourishing, good government, and a prospering nation and are there valid concerns that need protecting? Why or why not? The justification cannot be based upon scripture alone, but upon good and solid scientific, historical studies. All of us need to understand that some of the answers will not be found, but lie in leaving people to their philosophical differences.

One might defend a "one world", but practically speaking what does this mean, how does it work, and what are the prospects to/for liberty? That is important as we begin to see the unraveling of the foundations of American society/government!Angie Van De Merwehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12617299120618867829noreply@blogger.com
